Policy dialogue: Reforms for the freeing of the state

On June 8th, 2018, the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in the Republic of Macedonia conducted a policy dialogue on the topic “Reforms for the freeing of the state” in Public Room, within the framework of project Network 23+. Ms. Uranija Pirovska, director of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in the Republic of Macedonia, gave an introductory speech.
The speakers were:
  • Mr. Goce Kocevski. project manager and coordinator for legal assistance and representation in the Macedonian Young Lawyers Association, with the topic: “Reforms in the judiciary and human rights”
  • Tatjana Kalajdzieva, chief in the MoI – Unit for Prevention and Integrity in the Department of internal control, criminal investigations and professional standards, with the topic: “Introducing external control to the police”
  • Sibel Amet, legal advisor in the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in the Republic of Macedonia with the topic: “Reforms in prisons and respecting rights”
The debate was moderated by Hajdi Shterjova Simonovic from the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in the Republic of Macedonia.

Representatives from institutions and civil society organizations participated in the discussion.

The goal of the dialogue is to promote a structured debate on how the implementation of reforms in the judicial system, including police and prison reforms, reflects the protection of the fundamental human rights in Macedonia.

The debate is organized within the project Network 23+, financially supported by the European Union and co financially supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Belgrade. The project is implemented by the European Policy Institute and the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in the Republic of Macedonia.
