Will there be Whistleblowers at the Universities? - study for corruption in the higher education presented

The Institute for strategic research and education presented the study "Will there be Whistleblowers at the Universities?” produced as a part of Network 23+.

The study focuses on the effects of the implementation of the Law for protection of whistleblowers towards the fight against corruption in the higher education. According to the conducted research, 54% of the respondents think that the corruption is widely present in the higher education. Also, 70% aren't informed that there is a Law for protection of whistleblowers, and 83% don't know that the institution where they are studying at has a person designated for handling whistleblower cases.

The document contains the current legal framework for preventing corruption in the higher education, especially the Law for protection of whistleblowers, as well as comparative cases and best practices in this area. Additionally, the study includes primary data from a questionnaire in which students and employees in the higher education facilities took part, as well as organizing round tables with the four university centres in our country.

The document offers several proposals for key policy makers, firstly the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia and universities, as well as other institutions and organizations in the area of higher education in our country.
